- Teaching Reading: Strategies from Successful Classrooms
In DVD format. An essential resource for reading-teacher educators and inservice directors, this series presents powerful images of effective instruction with students at risk for reading failure. The lessons shown are grounded in research, but taught by actual classroom teachers in classrooms across the United States (San Antonio, TX; Harlem, NY; Media, PA; Lansing, MI; Danville, IL; and Honolulu, HI). The series was prepared in collaboration with well-known reading educators and researchers, including Kathryn Au, Irene Gaskins, Taffy Raphael, Dorothy Strickland, and William Teale. The exemplary practices illustrated in the series provide a wealth of material for both preservice and experienced teachers. The series contains six video segments, each approximately 30 minutes long: Emergent Literacy, The Reading/Writing Connection, Teaching Word Identification, Literacy in Content Area Instruction, Fostering a Literate Culture, and Teaching Reading Comprehension: Experience and Text.
