The Center for the Study of Reading is currently pursuing two projects. One major project is the Collaborative Reasoning Project which investigages social and cognitive processes involved in children's development of reasoning. Aimed at promoting higher-level reading comprehension and critical thinking in all children, Collaborative Reasoning worked in classrooms as far as Korea and China as well as in classrooms in the United States. The Center's second pursuit, Learning to Read Chinese, is a joint project with psychologists at Beijing Normal University. This project examines young Chinese children's morphological and phonological awareness to improve reading instruction in classrooms across China.
